Experiments, platforms and infrastructures incorporating femtosecond technologies are complex due to their multi-technology nature, which is constantly and often rapidly evolving, with growing applications in optics, photonics, chemistry and physical chemistry of materials and laser processes.

The aim of the FEMTO network's technology school is therefore to offer technicians, engineers, researchers, doctoral students and post-doctoral fellows training aimed at disseminating fundamental knowledge and its evolution, but also at understanding and rationalizing the impact of these scientific and technological developments on research, as well as the resources implemented or to be developed.

NB: Presentations will be given in French

This 3-day course (from September 22 to 24, 2025) will focus on :

  •  Ultrafast Laser and Nonlinear Sources - Basic Principles and State of the Art
  •  Metrology, Spectral, Temporal and Spatial Diagnostics
  •  Spectral, Temporal and Spatial Shaping
  •  Applications
  •  New Technologies
  •  Laser Safety

Lectures and practical activities (practical demonstrations, digital activities, facility visits) will enable you to:

  •     Understand the basic principles of femtosecond laser pulses.
  •     Understand the main applications of these technologies in different scientific fields.
  •     Identify the main components and instruments used to generate, characterize and manipulate femtosecond pulses.
  •     Configure and adjust a femtosecond laser system for specific applications.
  •     Perform experiments using femtosecond pulses in optics and photonics.
  •     Perform basic measurements and analyses of ultrafast phenomena.
  •     Optimize the performance of femtosecond laser systems for advanced research.
  •     Integrate femtosecond technologies into complex experimental protocols in materials chemistry and physical chemistry.
  •     Analyze and interpret experimental data from femtosecond measurements.
